Nine Candidates to be Interviewed for Ferndale School Board

Ferndale, MI –  Nine candidates have applied to fill the vacancy on the Ferndale School Board left by the recent resignation of Trustee Amy Butters.

Stacey Walters, Brad Dahlhofer, Michael J. Gordon, Andrew Cissell, Sandra Dukhie, Joseph Scott, Cheryl Yapo, Cay Schmidt, and Jordan Smellie will be interviewed at a special Ferndale School Board meeting tonight (Tuesday, March 14) at 7pm at the Ferndale High School Media Center.

The position is unpaid.  Responsibilities of the board are outlined on the district’s website, which states ”

As trustees of the Ferndale School District, we are responsible for setting educational policies consistent with state and federal laws governing public education. As representatives of the electorate, we attempt to provide programs designed to meet the educational objectives of the community. In addition, we are responsible for the district’s resources. We also serve as a board of appeals. Individually and as a board, we work as concerned citizens for the improvement of public schools.”

The Board will vote on which of the applicants will finish Butters’ term which expires on December 31st, 2018.
