Amy Butters Resigns, Ferndale School Board Seeks New Member

(Ferndale Schools, Feb. 27, 2017)

Ferndale, Michigan- Ferndale Schools Board of Education Trustee Mrs. Amy Butters resigned from her position on the Board effective yesterday, February 26th, 2017.  Mrs. Butters has served on the School Board since she was elected to a six year term beginning on January 1st, 2013.

In her letter of resignation Mrs. Butters stated:

“I am proud of the work I have contributed to the Board since being elected in November 2012. The time is right for me to leave. I look forward to volunteering in other capacities for the students of this district.”

Ferndale Schools Board of Education President Jennifer LaTosch said, “Amy Butters has been a dedicated and integral member of the Ferndale Public Schools Board of Education since the moment she took her Oath of Office. Amy’s experience and insight have helped to steer our vision and our collective mission in a positive and collaborative manner. Amy’s exceptional editorial skills, her ability to think of and formulate effective and instructive questions, and her constant focus on fidelity and transparency have made us a better Board and have led us in creating a stronger school district. It has been an honor and privilege to serve with Amy; I will miss her insight and astuteness, but I know that we will all continue to work together in other ways for the betterment of our district and the success of all of our Ferndale Public Schools students. We wish her nothing but the best and thank her for all of the time, experience and dedication she has shared with us over the years.”

Ferndale Schools Superintendent Blake Prewitt said, “It has been a privilege to work with Amy. She has been a consistent advocate for the students of Ferndale and dedicated to continuous improvement of Ferndale Schools. Amy was instrumental to developing and implementing our current strategic plan. As a new Superintendent, Amy worked with myself and my administration to keep us moving forward on the strategic plan. I will miss working with Amy in her capacity as a School Board member but the students of Ferndale will continue to benefit from her dedication as a volunteer.”

The Board of Education is now seeking applications to fill Mrs. Butters’ position and serve the remainder of her term which expires on December 31st, 2018.  Applications will be received electronically through 4 p.m. on Monday, March 13th, 2017.  Please visit for more details and to apply for the position.
