Gas Leak in Downtown Birmingham, Visitors Urged to Avoid Area – UPDATED

There is a gas main break at the corner of Martin and Bates in Birmingham. Emergency personnel are on the scene. Please avoid the area. The Baldwin Public Library and Birmingham City Hall will be closed until further notice. There will be no interruption in Fire and Police services.

UPDATE – As of 1:30 p.m., the gas main break at the corner of Martin and Bates has been contained. The intersection remains closed for crews working on the repair. The Baldwin Public Library and Birmingham City Hall remain closed; all others may return to their businesses.
