(Lake Orion Police, video: Linden Vennard, Jan. 28, 2017)

Lake Orion, MI – Structure Fire at Lake Orion Pet Centre : 46 E. Flint St – All people safely evacuated, all boarded pets safely recovered.

At about 8:00 am this morning the Lake Orion Police Department and The Orion Township Fire Department were dispatched to a report of flames visible. There are residential apartment units on the second story of the building, the Pet grooming and boarding business is on the lower level.

LOPD officers arrived on scene and observed fire visible at the south-east corner of the upper level. LOPD officers evacuated everyone from the apartments, LOPD officers then entered the Pet Center under heavy smoke conditions and rescued all of the caged / boarded dogs. Sadly, the two cats owned by the Pet Center that roam the office area could not be located and were presumed lost in the fire.

The rescued animals are being moved to another boarding facility in the area and the owners will be notified.

OTFD and Oxford FD personnel worked quickly to battle the fire and successfully contained it to only the apartments and Pet Center building.

Flint Street from Broadway to Slater St. and Anderson street from Front to Shadbolt will remain closed to vehicular traffic until the building and immediate area is safe. We anticipate re-opening the adjacent streets later today.

** E. Flint street between Anderson and N. Broadway will be closed to vehicular travel and parking until the building is inspected to determine structural integrity or collapse. When it is safe to do so, Flint Street will be reopened **

Fire investigators were on scene and will conduct an investigation as to the cause of the fire.

All other Downtown Lake Orion Businesses and streets are open.
