Ten Year Old Called 911 Just Before Mother’s Murder in Commerce Twp

Commerce Twp, MI – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred at approximately 9:40pm on Monday, January 23rd at a residence in the 1700 block of Applebrook in Commerce Twp. Deputies responded to a call for a domestic assault occurring within the home between a husband and wife according to the caller, who was the couple’s 10 year old child. The child indicated the father was retrieving a knife.

Deputies approached the residence and observed a male subject, who was later identified as the husband, inside the home covered in blood. The husband opened the door and allowed Deputies into the home while making statements that his wife was dead. Deputies located the wife inside the living room obviously deceased. All three of the couple’s children were located on the second floor of the home unharmed.

The victim, a 38 year old female resident of Commerce Twp., was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The suspect, a 36 year old male resident of Commerce Twp., is currently in stable condition at a local hospital due to self-inflicted injuries. He is in the process of being interviewed by the Special Investigations Unit and is under hospital watch by Sheriff’s Office Deputies.

The weapon, a kitchen knife, believed to have been used in the murder has been located. An autopsy on the victim has been scheduled for today. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate this homicide and will release additional information as it becomes available.
