Reporter Food: McDonalds with a Fish Tank in Bloomfield Hills
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 23, 2017)
Bloomfield Hills, MI – I’m not even going to bother talking about the food or taking pictures of it for this reporter food column, because I’m pretty sure most oc115 readers know what a McDonald’s hamburger and fries are like. Though I will say that at the 2209 S. Telegraph, Bloomfield Hills location the quality and cleanliness seem first rate.
The best part about it though is not the food, but the memories.
This McDonald’s has a fish tank, with seating all around it so kids and adults can watch giant goldfish and Bala sharks swimming around while they eat.
This is an absolutely delightful way to create memories. While it may not seem like much to grown-ups, kids that go with their parents on special trips to a place like this remember it nostalgically later on.
I know because when I was a youngster there was a McDonald’s in Downtown Ferndale that had a fish tank, and it was a big deal to go there with my dad and sit on the yellow plastic stools. We’d hold french fries up to the glass to try and tease the fish, and it was hilarious (though somewhat grim) to eat a filet-o-fish while sitting at the counter.
That location got torn down long ago. But finding this one on Telegraph made me very happy. I shared these pictures on Facebook and found that others remembered it fondly as well.
This location is easily assailable as it is on Telegraph just north of Square Lake Road. Hopefully this will inspire others to go make some memories of their own.
