Ferndale Police Looking For Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run of Bicyclist

Ferndale, MI– On Friday, December 9, 2016 between 10:30 p.m. and 11:52 p.m. Michael Proxmire, 48, of Madison Heights was fatally struck by a vehicle on eastbound 10 Mile Road near Huron Avenue in the city of Ferndale. A passerby noticed Mr. Proxmire laying in the roadway and called 911. Ferndale police and fire/rescue were immediately dispatched. As officers arrived on scene they began CPR on Mr. Proxmire whose care was turned over to Ferndale Fire/Rescue upon their arrival. FFD transported Mr. Proxmire to Royal Oak Beaumont where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The striking vehicle or vehicles have not been identified. Ferndale police investigators are asking that anyone who may have been in the area of 10 Mile Road and Huron Avenue between 10:30 p.m. and 11:52 p.m. please call 248-541-3650 if you saw or heard anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. Mr. Proxmire was riding a gray men’s mountain bike prior to being struck and he was wearing a brown leather coat and green camouflage pants.
