HAVEN Welcomes New CEO Amna Osman
PONTIAC, MICH. – Dec. 7, 2016 – HAVEN, the Pontiac-based nonprofit dedicated to eliminating domestic violence and sexual assault, announced today that Amna Osman will begin as the new president and CEO effective Dec. 12.  She succeeds Beth Morrison who departed the organization for relocation at the end of July after 13 years of service.
“As a well-established public health leader and a staunch advocate for social change, our selection committee found Ms. Osman to be a perfect fit for HAVEN,” said Sue Perlin, HAVEN’s board chair. “Her outstanding leadership skills and demonstrated ability to execute strategically, combined with her dedication to serving vulnerable populations, make Ms. Osman uniquely qualified to lead HAVEN successfully into the future.”
Involved in public health and nonprofit leadership for more than 15 years, Ms. Osman established Osman Consulting in Grand Blanc, Mich. in 2013. Through her firm, she offered leadership development, strategic planning, and board development services. Concurrently, she was a leadership coach and mentor at the Great Lakes Leadership Academy at Michigan State University. An alumnus of the program, Ms. Osman hosted workshops and helped teams develop solutions for problematic economic issues.
Prior to her current role, she dedicated five years to the Michigan Department of Community Health. As division director, she oversaw HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention programs, organizational development, human resources and fiscal management, and helped the agency obtain $2.4 million in new grants and supplemental awards. During the same period, Ms. Osman consulted for the National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD). Her evaluation of Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS (SISTA) resulted in its modification, which was then integrated into prevention programs in Ethiopia to reduce the risk of HIV and AIDS.

In addition to her professional experience, Ms. Osman holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Michigan and a diploma from South Carolina State University & the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. She also completed the Advanced Leadership Program at Michigan State University as a nominated participant, and she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the United States International University in San Diego. She is currently in a doctorate program at Antioch University focusing her studies on Appreciative Leadership.
Under Ms. Osman’s leadership, HAVEN will enter its forty-second year of service and support for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. HAVEN’s 2017 activities will include completing current strategic plan initiatives to:
Enhance collaborations with community partners.
Improve accessibility and quality of services for survivors.
Encourage staff empowerment, grass roots activism, and connectedness to the larger movement to end gender-based violence.
Identify short‐term and long‐term financial structure for HAVEN’s capitalization goals.
In addition, the HAVEN team will continue to expand its onsite organic garden, add a pet center to house pets of those participating in the Residential Program, work to increase awareness of pediatric services available through the START program, and utilize the meditation garden for alternative therapies.
