(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 29, 2016)
Bloomfield Hills, MI –Charles Murphy is one of over a dozen people who are running for Oakland County Community College (OCC) Trustee.  There are three open seats. Anderson, Kathleen Anna Bertolini, Jessica Gingell, Pam Jackson, Thomas W. Kelly, Thomas E. Kuhn, Terrell VanCleef Lockart, Max C. Milstein, Emily Mixter, Charles E. Murphy, Christian Noordhoorn, James Paul O’Rilley, John Randle Sr, E. Wadsworth Sherrod III, Eric J. Siegel, and Tim Terpening.
MBREW draft oneMurphy is a business attorney with Clark Hill in Birmingham who has served on other boards including two law firm boards, Millitary Families United and being Chair of Michigan Legal Education Committee of the State Bar Association.
When asked why people should vote for him, Murphy said “I think I have the business experience and the board experience that’s necessary. I’m not part of any of the interest groups at OCC, I’m not a student, I’m not faculty member, not part of the administration. I am a taxpayer in Oakland County.
“I have the ability to listen to all the voices of the different interest groups and to be a leader on the board. I would be a diligent person who would be well-prepared. I would dive into issues. I would make sure that the voices of all the different groups at OCC are heard and then balanced in a way that is cooperative but so includes leadership on the board.
“So I think just in terms of the campaign too, I think I’ve worked harder than most of the other candidates. I appear and as many events as possible, and talk to the voters. I don’t see a lot of the other candidate out there. Some of them don’t even respond to questionnaires, League of Women Voters for example. I would bring that diligence, hard work, and leadership to the board. I think I’m the best qualified person that’s in the group that’s running for this position during this election cycle.”

In his interview with oc115, Murphy talked about his priorities including keeping tuition low, increasing the rates of retention and graduation with increased counseling and outreach, increasing online opportunities, expansion of tech and training programs, and more outreach to local k-12 schools to help increase enrollment.lynn_stange_07
