2016 Candidate Interview State Rep. Robert Wittenberg
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 15, 2016)
Oak Park, MI – Democratic incumbent Robert Wittenberg is the State Representative for the 27th District, representing Berkley, Huntington Woods, Oak Park, Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Hazel Park, and Royal Oak Township. He is running for re-election on the Nov. 8, 2016 ballot. He is being challenged by Republican Kyle Forrest.
When asked why he is running, Wittenberg said “I want to continue fighting for our public schools here in the District. I represent four different school districts – Oak Park, Berkley, Hazel Park and Ferndale. I want to fight for our middle class families. I want to fight for equality, make sure all our residents, not just in this district but across the state have equal rights. I want to fight for our seniors, continue fighting for them, make sure they are able to retire with financial security and dignity. And our local communities. I want to make sure that our communities have the resources they need to provide the services for the residents. That’s something that in Lansing we’ve been balancing our books on the backs of local communities and that’s been going on for years that needs to stop.
In his interview with oc115, Wittenberg talked about being able to pass his first two bills with bi-partisan support. One was an update to the insurance code and the other allows an out of state physician that is traveling with a sports team to practice medicine in a limited way on their team members. He also talked about issues such as gun violence and the need to amend the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity.
