(EVENT page)
Bloomfield Township, MI – “Bloomfield Township Reads: Fall for Dahl” on Saturday, October 8, 2016 is a read-a-thon and fundraising party at Bloomfield Township Public Library. Coinciding with the 100th birthday of children’s author, the late Roald Dahl, the Library’s first-ever read-a-thon will feature the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Mr. Dahl. Starting at 1:00 p.m., volunteer readers will take turns reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to an audience. At 7:00 p.m. that evening, the celebration continues with a family-friendly ticketed fundraising event “An Evening of Pure Imagination”. Funds raised at this event will help buy a new puppet theater for the Library’s Youth Department.
Bring the family to hear a wonderful classic, read by volunteers from the community. The read-a-thon starts at 1:00 p.m. inside the Library. Volunteers will read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This beloved children’s classic has adventure, humor, poetry, and absurdity and through it all runs a boy’s love for his grandparents. Readers will read for 15 minutes each, two to three chapters at a time, to an audience. Readers are community members and will include local broadcasting star Emery King. There is no registration and no charge to attend the read-a-thon as a spectator.
The read-a-thon is followed by an after-hours, family-friendly, ticketed event called “An Evening of Pure Imagination” inside the Library from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. What tremendous surprises are in store for you! The evening will include a screening of the 1971 film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” starring the late Gene Wilder, plus many other performers, crafts, and games. Enjoy scrumdidilyumptious chocolate treats from local bakeries and restaurants including Andiamo, Beau’s, Crispelli’s, Dessert Diva, Holiday Market, Moose Preserve, Sydney Bogg’s, Westborn Market, and more. Tickets for “An Evening of Pure Imagination” are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years old and younger. To buy tickets, go to www.btpl.org/imagination, or the Circulation Desk inside the Library.
Proceeds from “An Evening of Pure Imagination” will go towards a new puppet theater for the Library’s Youth Department. Puppet theaters encourage children to engage in imaginative play, a fundamental part of development. Our new puppet theater will be more accessible and will create space for more early literacy play activities. Wouldn’t you love to provide that for all the children who visit the Library?
This event is underwritten by the following generous sponsors: Golling Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Bloomfield Township, MI; Schwartz & Co, Bloomfield Township, MI; Midwest Tape, Holland, OH; Library Design Associates, Plymouth, MI;
