Hazel Park, MI – Emily Mixter is one of over a dozen people who are running for Oakland County Community College (OCC) Trustee. There are three open seats. This voluntary position helps oversee the administration and the budgeting process of the institution. Those running include Evan Agnello, Susan E. Anderson, Kathleen Anna Bertolini, Jessica Gingell, Pam Jackson, Thomas W. Kelly, Thomas E. Kuhn, Terrell VanCleef Lockart, Max C. Milstein, Emily Mixter, Charles E. Murphy, Christian Noordhoorn, James Paul O’Rilley, John Randle Sr, E. Wadsworth Sherrod III, Eric J. Siegel, and Tim Terpening.
When asked why she was running, Mixter said “After I graduated from college I had a difficult time finding a job so I started working as a substitute teacher. I ended up doing that for seven years and I substituted for all levels of education k-12, an during that time I saw how the access to higher education can really be a game changer for students of all backgrounds, and I want to make sure that opportunity is available to as many students as we can so we can have a highly educated workforce here in Michigan and here in Oakland County specifically.”
In her interview with oc115, Mixter talked about what the role of a Trustee is, what issues a Trustee might face, and her own background that she would bring to the position.
