2016 Candidate Interview Kerry Bentivolio for US Congress 11th District (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 20, 2016)
Milford, MI – Kerry Bentivolio served as the Republican Congressman for the 11th District in 2013-2014 as a Republican before losing to current Congressman Dave Trott. Bentivolio is now running as an Independent to try and reclaim the job. Also in the race are Democrat Anil Kumar and Libertarian Jonathan Ray Osment.
The 11th District includes Auburn Hills, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Clawson, Commerce Twp, Farmington, Highland Township, Lake Angelus, Lyon Twp, Milford Twp, Northville, Rochester Hills, South Lyon, Troy, Walled Lake, Waterford, West Bloomfield, White Lake Township and Wixom.
When asked why he is running, Bentivolio said “I was rated the 2nd most transparent member of Congress out of 435. I was big on fighting government waste and I got 100% score. Out of 435 only eight members of the House of Representatives earned 100%, A grade for fighting government waste… The problem we have with both parties is they’re not accountable and they’re not transparent… I have two rules. One is never lie, and try to avoid being a hypocrite.
In his interview with oc115, Bentivolio talked about posting his votes online, leading the opposition to invading Syria, and his fallout with the Republican Party. Bentivolio is a former school teacher, a military veteran, and is best known for his former hobby/business caring for reindeer that he would take to part of festivals and parades. Though the reindeer are gone, Bentivolio and his family enjoy growing grapes for wine and vinegar, getting honey from the bees they keep, and making homemade ice cream and canning peaches for their grandchildren.
