2016 Candidate Interview Charles Hicks for Southfield School Board 2016
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 20, 2016)
Southfield, MI – Charles Hicks is one of seven people running for three open seats on the Southfield Public Schools Board. In this non-partisan race, Hicks will appear on the ballot with Bessie Burden, Yolanda Smith Charles, Nathaniel Lewis Jr, Charles K. Penn, Talisha Rice and Shaakir Wahhab.
When asked why he is running, Hicks said “I’m an alum of the Southfield School District and I have five children, one who is also an alum of the district, and three who are currently in the district, and one who’s in preschool. So I have a vested interest in wanting to see services that I was provided continued for my kids.”
In his interview with oc115, Hicks talked about the recent consolidation of schools in the district, the strengths of the district, declining enrollment and competition from charter schools and the need for teachers to have resources.
