Reporter Food: GreenSpace Cafe’s American Beauty & Quinoa Lentil Burger
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug. 31, 2016)
Ferndale, MI – GreenSpace Cafe in Downtown Ferndale is now open for lunch, so that’s where I picked for today’s meeting with a local development expert who’d not eaten there before. I’d had Greenspace just once before and both times was impressed.
GreenSpace is, according to their website, “an artisanal plant-based restaurant and craft cocktail bar.” Drinks are made with quality spirits and Drought band juices.
Their beverage menu is an adventure unto itself. Because it included Rosebud, the “American Beauty” appealed to my journalism-geek side. It was a blend of rosebud and vanilla bean-infused gin, fresh blood orange and tonic. It even had a little rosebud in it.
It was lovely to sip such a fancy drink while discussing the growth of the Metro Detroit region and these relatively early stages of building a media empire.
GreenSpace Cafe is a good place for big dreams, and it is exciting to see how the Kahn family’s upscale plant-based restaurant is growing since they opened in December.
Lunch for me was a Quinoa Lentil Burger made with Cremini mushroom, lentil, quinoa and sweet potato served with organic leaf lettuce, pickled onion and romesco with avocado added on. It was delicious.
The prices at Greenspace are higher than other Ferndale restaurants, but the quality of the ingredients and the rich atmosphere make Greenspace a destination location for people from all over SE Michigan. The menu has many other fantastic drinks and food choices, including an interesting selection of healthy salads made with products from local farms.
Greenspace is located at 215 W. 9 Mile in Ferndale. Find out more at http://greenspacecafe.com/.
