Royal Oak, MI – With Arts, Beats and Eats happening the City of Royal Oak has shared the following information for residents and guests:
Labor Day Holiday Hours; Court Closes Early Sept. 2
In observance of the Labor Day holiday, the City of Royal Oak government offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5. Regular hours resume Tuesday, Sept. 6. Please see the list below for closings or special hours for city facilities and services.
CITY HALL: Friday, Sept. 2 open from 8 a.m. to noon; CLOSED at noon. CLOSED Monday, Sept. 5
ROYAL OAK PUBLIC LIBRARY: CLOSED Friday, Sept. 2 through Monday, Sept. 5
 
44th DISTRICT COURT: Friday, Sept. 2 open from 8 a.m. to noon; CLOSED at noon. CLOSED Monday, Sept. 5.
Please note: Due to restricted parking as a result of Arts, Beats & Eats festival parking, the court will close Friday, Sept. 2 at noon. Anyone who has matters to be filed with the court with a deadline of Sept. 2 will be continued to Tuesday, Sept. 6.
ROYAL OAK FARMERS MARKET: Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2 – 3, open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.; CLOSED Sunday, Sept. 4.
The farmers market is open during its normal hours on Friday and Saturday. Parking is free for market customers ONLY.
PUBLIC PARKING: Parking garages will have normal operations until 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2. After 5 p.m. Friday – and through Monday, Sept. 5 – parking is $15 per entry. Passes will NOT be honored.
Public surface lots will have normal operations until 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2. After 2 p.m. Friday – and through Monday, Sept. 5 – parking is $15 per entry. Passes will NOT be honored.
All downtown meters will be permit parking only after 2 p.m. on Friday and through Monday, Sept. 5. There will be $50 fines for violators.
Within an approximate one-half to one mile radius from the Arts, Beats & Eats festival, all parking in neighborhoods is on a permit parking only basis, and police will issuing $50 fines as a deterrent.
TRASH COLLECTION: Royal Oak trash pickup will be delayed one day the week of Sept. 5.

FOR ROYAL OAK RESIDENTS
Do we have to worry about outside festival patrons parking in neighborhoods?
Within an approximate one half to one mile radius from the festival, all parking in neighborhoods is on a permit parking only basis, and police will be issuing $50 fines as a deterrent. Residents may report problems to Royal Oak Police, who also have the option to tow vehicles if resident parking problems are an issue.
What time do the bands stop playing?
All bands on local stages stop at 11pm on Friday through Sunday and 9pm on Monday. All bands on the national stage run until 11:30pm on Friday through Sunday and until 10pm on Monday.
What streets will be closed for the festival?
Washington between 2nd and Lincoln, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Lincoln streets between Lafayette and Main, and Center Street between Third and Seventh.
When do downtown festival streets close?
Most streets close for festival set-up at 6pm on Wed. September 2nd, and reopen at 8am on Tuesday, September 8th. The following streets will remain open at all times around the festival: Lafayette to the West, Eleven Mile to the North, and Main Street to the East.
Will police be patrolling neighborhoods and providing traffic services?
Royal Oak Police will have representatives patrolling neighborhood for parking violations and unruly behavior. Report any concerns at any time to Royal PD.
Do the tax payers have a direct cost burden in hosting the festival?
The cost of Royal Oak Police and Firefighters will be covered from parking revenues, which we are expected to more than cover all costs. There is the possibility that Police and Fire expenses don’t get covered in case of bad weather or poor attendance and parking revenue
Has the city of Royal Oak written a check to Arts, Beats & Eats to help with expenses?
The City of Royal Oak has not directly, but the Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority has supported the city with an annual contribution of $100,000. These funds will also be returned to the DDA once they have repaid the City of Royal Oak for expenses. The DDA investment is expected to support an event that will bring millions of dollars of business into the downtown during Labor Day weekend and was voted on unanimously by the DDA to support on a 7-0 vote.
