Local Hop Ad TOPFerndale: Elk-Camino Shirt GT ad 06to Raise Money for Elks Scholarship Fund
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug. 17, 2016)
Ferndale, MI – As the city braces for the influx of classic cars this weekend, the Ferndale Elks Club is hoping that some creative design work and a prime location (the corner of Woodward Avenue and Vester Street in Downtown Ferndale), will be a good mix for a fundraiser.
The club’s nifty shirts feature their beloved mascot – the Elk – rollin’ in a classic El Camino.  The cost is $15 and the money raised goes into a grant fund for Elks organizations’ community projects.
The dinos02sidelogo3shirts were designed by Christopher Gorski, the founder of Detroit GT.  He’s provided the shirts at cost and done the design and printing for free.
Elks member Erik Buckstad was excited to have Gorski design a shirt for the group.  “Chris does some really great stuff.  Never just the same cheesy kind of stuff.”
Buckstad said people don’t realize how valuable benevolent organizations like the Elks are.  “When I was in college I was involved in student government, in my fraternity.  It was an easy outlet to do good things.  It’s social, it’s fun. There’s like-minded groups of people. There are lots of groups you can join around a specific cause or specific projects you can do, but I really like the Elks because it is a group of friends that do a variety of things, and have fun.”
The money from the tee shirt sales goes to the Elks National Foundation where clubs can then apply for scholarships.  Recently the Ferndale Elks received $2,500 that was used to purchase garden16_monte_albertblankets for South Oakland Shelter.  They also took a class of 18 special needs students and their staff to see a Detroit Tiger’s game.
The group has about 350 members and on special days, like Dream Cruise weekend, the club is open to the public.
Buchstad said people can stop by the Elk’s any time to buy a shirt as long as they sign in as a guest.  Or the club will be open for the weekend.
