Dems Nominate Suzanna Shkreli to Replace Gilbert on 8th District Congressional Ballot

Clarkston, MI – With actress Melissa Gilbert being unable to run due to medical issues, the Democratic Party has nominated Suzanna Shkreli of Clarkston to serve as the Democratic nominee against Republican incumbent Mike Bishop.
A statement by the Michigan Democratic Party announced the nomination:
Suzanna Shkreli, an assistant Macomb County prosecutor, is now officially the Democratic Party’s general election nominee for Congress in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District.
“We are thrilled to now call Suzanna Shkreli our official nominee for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. We look forward to working closely with her, from now until Election Day, to bring her message of fighting for working families to Washington,” said Brandon Dillon, Michigan Democratic Party Chair.
“Gilbert, who is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery today and has been deemed by her neurosurgeon to be “medically disabled,” therefore physically unfit to continue her campaign or serve if elected, advised the Michigan Democratic Party of her withdrawal as the Party’s nominee in the 8th Congressional District. Pursuant to Michigan Election Law, the district nominating committee, in a unanimous vote, nominated Shkreli to replace Gilbert on the November 8th ballot.
The Michigan Democratic Party today submitted the necessary documents to the Secretary of State and relevant county clerks, along with the request to have Shkreli placed on the November 8th ballot.
Once the Secretary of State accepts the withdrawal and subsequent nomination, Shkreli will officially replace Melissa Gilbert on the general election ballot as the Democratic nominee for Congress in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District.
“Suzanna is a leader, plain and simple – she’s taken on tough fights in the courtroom, she’s a strong victims’ rights advocate, and she’s leading the charge for equality in the workplace and public office,” Dillon continued. “Most importantly, she fights for Michigan’s children and families, not for Donald Trump and wealthy campaign donors, like her opponent Mike Bishop has done with his time in Washington.”
