Royal Oak, MI – Members of the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce gathered to celebrate the organization’s 80th birthday at a party held Tuesday evening at Strada. The friendly business owners and representatives mingled while they enjoyed snacks and beverages made by guest bartenders. Though the celebration was for the Chamber, gifts were collected by members to give to children in Beaumont’s Pediatric Oncology Center.
Some oc115 sponsors were among those in crowd, including attorney Howard Collens of Galloway and Collens PLLC, and Dale Vigliarolo of Lakepointe Roofing. Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison, who is currently running for State Rep, was also there. Paul and Tina Curtis of Red Door Realty also are part of the Chamber and regular attendees of networking events, though this reporter did not see them Tuesday.
Jason Gittinger of Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music felt being part of the Chamber was an important part of being a business owner. “I’m on the board too, and it’s helpful to talk to other business owners about what they have experience in,” he said. “It also helps to meet the people you do business with. If you need a service or something for your business you can see who is in the Chamber and know they’re part of the community.”
Not much is known about the history of the Chamber, apart from a couple black and white photographs of a house with just a banner that they do not even know the address of, according to Executive Director Shelley Kemp. She is hoping that by the Chamber’s 100th Anniversary they may be able to find more about the group’s past. Anyone with documents, photos or other information is encouraged to contact the Chamber at 248.547.4000.
