Berkley, MI – In the race for County Commissioner for the 19th District there are no competitions in the primary. On Nov. 8 Republican Michael Ryan will be on the ballot against Democratic incumbent Dave Woodward.
Ryan is a dentist who lives in Berkley and has an office in Huntington Woods.
When asked why he is running, Ryan said “My main emphasis is we need to try different healthcare insurance, and after I lost there [in a previous State Rep. race], I said, you know, the county has a fairly large workforce and a lot of them have the benefits from the county. And I also had read that the County Commission had already put some of the retirees to a defined contribution plan so the county’s portion would be fixed. I thought, this works out perfectly to try something I’d been thinking about. I’m in dentistry and you have choices in how much coverage you have.” He went on to explain his idea for letting people pick and choose the pieces of health insurance they would like to have.
Ryan also talked about wanting a better transit system, wanting to eliminate the personal property tax and wanting to stop civil asset forfeiture.
