Farmington Hills, MI – In the race for State Rep of the 37th District there are two Republican Candidates facing off in the primary: Mitch Swoboda and Matt Beer. The winner of the Republican Primary on Aug. 2 will be on the ballot against Democratic incumbent Christine Greig on the Nov 8 election day. The 37th includes Farmington and Farmington Hills.
Swoboda spent eight years in the Air Force before working for Lockheed Martin on missile systems.
When asked why he is running, Swoboda said that he’d never thought of running for office until he was asked by fellow Republicans. He also said “I love Michigan. I’ve lived here all my life and that’s the way I feel right now. I want to keep it a proud state. I want to increase employment, and I want to help everyone I can and get the red tape and the government out of this stuff. This government bureaucracy that’s killing businesses and stuff.”
In his interview with oc115, Swoboda talked about his Evangelical faith and his love of hunting and the outdoors. He volunteers with Michigan Bass Anglers, a group that takes kids bass fishing. He spoke of his concern that there is not enough oversight in schools and that schools are teaching Islam and ostracizing Christianity, and he talked about wanting to help veterans get support for PTSD.
