(Renew for the Zoo, July 20, 2016)
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Penguins, frogs and tigers are staking out their territory on lawns across Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties to encourage support of the Detroit Zoo millage renewal.  The signs read, “Renew for the Zoo – Vote Yes August 2”.
Renew for the Zoo will distribute the campaign signs bearing the faces of favorite zoo animals (one per household while they last) at the parking lot on the east side of Woodward Avenue at I-696 in Royal Oak on the following dates:
Friday, July 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
MBREW draft oneSunday, July 24, 10 a.m. to noon
Voters in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties are being asked to renew a one-tenth mill property tax for 10 years to support the Detroit Zoo.  Property taxes will not increase from the current rate if the renewal is approved; for a homeowner whose home is worth $200,000, the cost remains $10 a year.  About one-third of the Detroit Zoo’s $35 million annual costs are covered by the millage, used for operations and maintenance of the Zoo’s 125-acre campus.
Signs are paid for with regulated funds by Renew for the Zoo–Macomb, Renew for the Zoo–Oakland and Renew for the Zoo–Wayne, P.O. Box 1004, Royal Oak, MI 48068.
