Man Shoots Self at Heritage Park in Farmington Hills

Farmington Hills, MI – At approximately 11 a.m. July 8, Farmington Hills Police Officers responded to a report of a despondent man in a vehicle at Heritage Park.
As a precautionary measure, all campers and visitors at Heritage Park were safely removed by bus to the Costick Center, located at 28600 Eleven Mile Road.
The caller notified police regarding the despondent man, who was in his vehicle located at Heritage Park. Officers responded immediately and made numerous attempts to communicate with the man. Sadly, he utilized a firearm to take his own life. No one at the park was ever threatened or unsafe at any time, and no one else was injured.
Heritage Park was closed for several hours so police could conduct a follow-up investigation.
Parents of children in City of Farmington Hills Heritage Park summer camp programs were able to pick up their children from the Costick Center, located at 28600 Eleven Mile Road, at the normal pickup time.
SUICIDE PREVENTION:

Warning Signs:
~Talking about, or making plans to die
~Talking about “ending the pain”
~Persistently feeling sad, lonely or “empty”
~Insomnia or excessive sleeping
~Social isolation and withdrawal
~Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Risk Factors:
~Previous suicide attempt(s)
~Depression or other mental illness
~Substance use
~Family history of suicide
~Physical illness and /or chronic pain
