Candidate Interview David J. Harrell for County Commission 20th District

Troy, MI – Republican David J. Harrell is running for County Commissioner for the 20th District, which is Madison Heights, Pleasant Ridge and parts of Royal Oak and Troy. In the Aug. 2 primary he is up against fellow Republican J. Karl Jackson. The winner of the primary will take on the incumbent Democrat Gary R. McGillivray.
Harrell is a Deacon at Grace Baptist Church, an automotive engineer and the owner of Genesis Drug Testing.
Harrell said he is running to make a Democratic seat Republican. “I’m proud of the way we do thing now. I’m kind of worried if the Republicans lose control of the county. So I’m running as a Republican to help strengthen the Republican Party and our county in Michigan.”
Taxes are also an important issue to Harrell. “I believe we’re taxed enough already. I believe that it’s incumbent upon our government to do a better job of allocating the resources that we have, not to ty and raise taxes.
In his interview with oc115, Harrell also talked about the importance of fixing the roads and looking at water-related issues like infrastructure and drainage. He also would like to expand the business base.
