Ferndale, MI – The sound of gunfire and explosions and the presence of police in tactical gear will be a common site in Ferndale the next few weeks as the Taft School Building becomes the staging ground for OAKTAC training.

OAKTAC (the Oakland County Tactical-Response Coordinating Group) is made up of officers of most of the police agencies in Oakland County. They train together in order to prepare for situations such as dealing with an active shooter.

Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson had a notice sent to residents in the area stating “Be prepared to see numerous police officers, vehicles, and equipment Judy_Palmer30yearsin the area of the school over the summer months. The training includes the use of simulated gunfire and explosions, so you do not need to be alarmed when you hear the sounds during training. The training will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.”

The notice also thanked Ferndale Schools for providing the facilities for the training, and said that if residents have any concerns they should contact the Ferndale Police Department at (248) 541-3650.

A similar training was held in August of 2013 in Pontiac.  The oc115 was there for a press conference and demo. The above photo is from that training.  To get a better sense of what might happen at Taft, check out our previous story and video at http://oaklandcounty115.com/2013/08/27/officers-train-for-tactical-response-to-active-shooter-in-school-video-2/.
