(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 9, 2016)
Farmington Hills, MI – In the County-wide race for Water Resources Commissioner (formerly titled Drain Commissioner), the Democratic Incumbent Jim Nash faces Republican challenger Robert Buxbaum on the Nov. 8, 2016 ballot. Nash was elected to the position in 2012.

When asked why Water Resources Commissioner was a good place for him to be, Nash said “I’ve been an environmentalist all my life.  I tell this story that my father would be 118 years old right now.  He was born in 1897.  In 1908 he was 10 and he heard Theodore Roosevelt speak.  He used to quote it to me all MBREW draft onethe time, and one of the things he said was “Conservation is a great moral issue for it involves the patriotic duty to ensure the safety and continuance of the nation,’ and I’ve always taken that to heart, and I just feel it in my bones, we have to protect what we have – for my kids, for my grandkids.  I’ve got great grandkids, and everybody else.  This isn’t our planet, this is theirs. We’re leaving it to them.”
In his interview with oc115, Nash talked about going through the strategic planning process, increasing community outreach, making Oakland County more “green,” work being done through his nonprofit to increase awareness of issues impacting local river watersheds, and about the need to be environmentally conscious in development projects.
