Two Cats Saved & Damage Minimized in Multi-Unit House Fire in Troy

Troy, MI -. Two cats are safe and three apartments were spared damage in a multi-unit house on Brentwood thanks to the efficient work of The Troy Fire Department.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Riesterer the fire was reported at 8:08 am Sunday and was believed to be a kitchen fire though the investigation has not concluded yet.
“Residents in the immediate fire building reported all occupants had exited from the six unit structure,” Riesterer said.  “But there were two cats that family could not locate.
“Fire crews began an exterior fire attack on the first floor, and then transitioned to the attic space.   Fire was starting to progress into the common attic space.  This fire was suppressed in the attic space, and stopped within the first three units, protecting the other three units from fire damage.
“A search of the structure confirmed that no occupants were inside.  Both cats were discovered, alive, and returned to their owner.”
The department was on the scene for about four and a half hours.  Troy Police were on scene to direct traffic and control the perimeter.  Alliance Mobile Health personnel were on scene to support the firefighters.  And the American Red Cross came to help relocate occupants.
