Reporter Food: Wedge Salad
and Texas Burnt Ends from Rosie O’Grady’s (Crystal A. Proxmire, May 7, 2016) Ferndale, MI – Rosie O’Grady’s is pretty great. They are part of the Kramer Restaurant Group, who recently came on as an advertising sponsor of oc115. This means I get to enjoy Rosies, One-Eyed Betty’s, Pop’s for Italian, and Daily Dinette in Ferndale more often. They also own Cantina Diablo’s in Royal Oak. Plus there are Rosie’s locations in Southgate and Chesterfield.
So anyhow, I went in the other day to get some writing done and I ordered the wedge salad and Texas Burnt Ends. Wedge salad is probably not the healthiest of salads. But man is it good. It’s a section of iceberg lettuce topped with bacon, tomato, blue cheese crumbles and blue cheese dressing. Part of the fun is destroying the beautiful presentation to cut the lettuce into bite-sized bits. As you eat it there is the greasiness of the bacon, the creaminess of the blue cheese, all and the crispy refreshing texture of the lettuce. It’s fun. The Texas Burnt Ends were a good quality of meat. The sauce was more spicy than I normally like, but that was my fault for missing a word when reading the menu. “Smoked pork shoulder bites with honey-chipotle BBQ sauce. (I just saw “honey” and presumed it was sweet lol…ooops). Thankfully the bites themselves were juicy and good, and I expanded my palate a
bit. That is actually the point of “reporter food,” so I can have a reason to try new things. Rosie O’Grady’s has plenty to try too. Menu items include specialty pizzas, sandwiches, burgers and “hometown dinners” like Downey’s fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and chicken Rockefeller. The address for Rosie O’Grady’s is at 279 W Nine Mile in Ferndale, right on the corner of W. 9 Mile and Allen in the heart of Downtown Ferndale.
