Horse Visits New Way Bar
for Derby Day

Ferndale, MI – There may have been a time in history when it was not uncommon to see horses waiting outside of watering holes along Woodward Avenue, but these days it is a pretty rare thing.
But once a year, on the day of the Kentucky Derby, a gentle horse named Rosey comes to visit with passers-by and patrons of New Way Bar in Ferndale.
“We bring Rosey in every year for the derby party,” said owner Jamie D’Angelo. “People can pet her and take pictures and it’s a lot of fun.”
Rosey comes from a farm in Lake Orion and is joined by a professional caretaker to make sure she remains safe and healthy during her special appearances.
“We’ve done this for three years in a row so it’s getting to be our tradition,” D’Angelo said.
