Royal Oak, MI – Current Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison is running for State Rep. for the 26th District, which includes Madison Heights and Royal Oak.
Current State Rep. Jim Townsend cannot run again due to term limits. Ellison is a Democrat who faces no Democratic competition in the primary on Aug. 2.
On the Nov. 8, 2016 ballot there is a Republican candidate named Randy LeVasseur.
When asked why he is running, Ellison said “It’s the frustration. We’ve all seen what’s 
happening in Lansing the past few years, and that’s why I got involved in local politics to begin with, the frustration of things not getting done. It finally got to the point, I feel like I have something to offer. I have 12 years as Mayor and I can take a tremendous amount of municipal government experience up to Lansing and hopefully do some good stuff, because I think the cities and the school districts are getting short changed considerably.”
In his interview with oc115, Ellison talked about what he feels his accomplishments have been in his history as Mayor, what will happen to that seat if he is elected, what he values about Royal Oak, what he has learned from being Mayor and more.
