Changes Coming to 13 Mile
and Woodward
(compiled, April 11, 2016)
Royal Oak, MI – Crain’s Detroit Business reports that Beaumont Health is finalizing plans to tear down the Northwood Shopping Center at 13 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak.
The center most notably houses Kroger, Office Depot and Party City, as well as a few Beaumont affiliates. According to the report, demolition will begin July 1. It is unknown what will become of the property.
Kitty-corner from the site a large statue is expected to be erected where a World War II Memorial is in the works. The statue is reminiscent of Alfred Eisenstaedt’s famous photograph of a drunken sailor forcing a kiss on woman at the end of World War II. The 25 ft. statue is expected to draw tourists to the area.
Kroger is building a large Kroger Marketplace store and gas station at 12 Mile and Stephenson Hwy, expected to open in the fall.
