Data Expert Shares Ethnic
and Racial Trends in Ferndale
(Kurt Metzger, April 7, 2016)
Ferndale, MI – The mission of Citizens for a Fair Ferndale is to foster a community that is dedicated to the fair and equal treatment of all residents and visitors regardless of sexual orientation, race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, age, height, weight, familial status, national origin, physical or mental ability.
They support this mission by creating avenues for communications, hosting forums for the community and educational workshops, creating dialog to dissolve barriers, recognizing local residents who support our mission.
I had the distinct opportunity to be asked to speak at the community forum in December of last year. The title was Ferndale: Past and Present. I used the opportunity to discuss regional demographic trends, with an emphasis on racial and ethnic settlement patterns. I also honed in on Ferndale to discuss general demographics, housing, race and voting.
The city was kind enough to film the presentation and then do a masterful job of editing the slides back in. The video is available on the Citizens’ website at http://fairferndale.org/?p=416.
