Lapeer Township, MI – If you were one of the millions of people who saw “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” this past weekend, you may have noticed that Bruce Wayne (Batman) was living in a Mies van der Rohe inspired modern glass home on a beautiful wooded lake front setting. Well, it just so happens that those scenes were filmed on GSSEM’s idled Camp Metamora property in Lapeer Township!
GSSEM was approached more than three years ago by location scouts for the movie about the possibility of using our property. After we said “Yes!” the film’s crew proceeded to build Mr. Wayne’s home right on the lake.
Click below for a time-lapsed video showing the house’s construction:

baby modern natural 02 adGSSEM was able to take four Girl Scouts to visit several of the movie’s sites including the glass house, the abandoned Wayne Manor, and the Wayne family crypt (which were built at Orion Oaks County Park)!  It was at the crypt where the girls actually got to see a scene being filmed and met with the director, Zack Snyder.
“We had no idea when the opportunity to visit the set was going to happen,” said Michael Baird, GSSEM’s Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. “When the call did come (in Oct. 2014), we had just 72 hours to find girls who met the production company’s requirements.  We couldn’t tell them or their parents exactly what they would be attending or where they were going until they signed and returned the non-disclosure agreements.  It was all very hush-hush as security surrounding the movie was incredibly high.”

This once-in-a-lifetime experience allowed our girls to not only walk through many of the sets featured in the film, GT ad 06but to also get involved in a live shoot! “Mr. Snyder was incredibly gracious, spending 15-20 minutes with our Girl Scouts, answering questions and explaining the technical aspects of that morning’s scene,” said Baird.
Sadly, this beautiful house is no more.  It was completely disassembled and the grounds were returned to their previous state after filming completed. If you were to visit the site today, you would have no idea that Bruce Wayne made his home here—if only for a brief time.
