Pontiac, MI –More than 50 Pontiac-area students secured funding for their college education during Pontiac Financial Aid Night at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast recently.
Over $450,000 in scholarships and grants were secured by the graduating seniors, who will attend colleges, universities, and trade schools in Michigan and across the country.
Financial Aid Night matched Pontiac students and their parents, with interns and support staff, who worked with the families prior to and during the event, to fill out college financial aid forms and scholarship applications, including applications for the Pontiac Promise Zone scholarship, which awarded approximately $9,000 to Pontiac students.
red door club ad“A community event like this is one that can truly change a student’s life regarding post-secondary learning,” said Paul Galbenski, Dean of the Northeast campus.
The event, the first of its kind, also included dinner, prepared and served by students and staff from the technical campus’ Culinary Arts & Hospitality program. In addition, students and their parents were able to meet with representatives from the Pontiac Promise Zone Authority and Michigan Rehabilitation Services. A consultant from Oakland Schools was also available to assist students with requesting college credits for classes the students completed while attending the technical campus, and applying to Oakland Community College.
