Driver from Hazel Park Found Passed Out on Side of I-75 Exit Ramp

Troy, MI – Drugs/Narcotics of Interest : Northbound Interstate 75 Exit Ramp to Crooks Road, 3/2/2016, 4:20 AM: Officers discovered a white 2001 Jeep Cherokee on the right shoulder of the road facing the wrong direction.
As the officers approached the vehicle, they discovered a male passed – out while sitting in the driver’s seat.
The officers were able to awaken the driver, a 41 year old male from Hazel Park, who indicated he had left his girlfriend’s house and lost control of his vehicle, knocking down a “Do Not Enter” sign.
The officers had the subject step out of the vehicle and observed sitting on the driver’s seat was a was piece of paper that contained a powdery substance believed to be Heroin. Also found next to the suspected narcotics was two pill bottles of Hydrocodone and Carisoprodol prescribed to the subject.
The driver presented a Michigan Identification Card to the officers and it was determined that his driving privileges were currently ‘Suspended’ by the Michigan Secretary of State. He was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations to which he did, but the officers noted that he performed poorly. He was arrested and brought to the Lock – up Facility where he was read his Chemical Test Rights and he agreed to a blood test. He was charged with Driving While License Suspended – 2nd Offense, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Narcotics pending laboratory results, and Possession of Heroin, also pending laboratory results.
