Shop in Rochester Helps Community
(ALCM Press Release, Feb. 28, 2016)
Rochester, MI – Spreading generosity is easy at the ReSale Connection in downtown Rochester. With every purchase made, shoppers get something for themselves, while simultaneously giving something to a person in need.
The ReSale Connection is an upscale resale shop, located at 204 S. Main Street. It features high-quality, pre-owned designer home décor, furniture and china–plus women’s fashion items, including footwear, handbags, jewelry, name-brand clothing and gowns. Whether you are shopping for a weekend outfit or donating some crystal stemware, the purchases and donations both generate proceeds.
A full 100% of the proceeds are directed to Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan® to support programs for kids and families in the tri-county area. Programs include:
~Assault Survivor Kits for sexual assault victims
~Community Connection, providing basics like food and clothing for various community groups
~Operation School Bell, which provides school clothes and supplies for students
~Backpack Meals, providing weekend sustenance for students who get free lunch during school days, and
~Wee Help, which provides newborn and infant supplies to mothers with limited income.
The ReSale Connection opened in 2000 and has been funding philanthropic activities for the past 16 years, while lending a reliable presence to the Rochester community and beyond.
“There are so many unmet needs, and they are remarkably close to home,” said Lorna Salmon, ReSale Connection chairperson and Assistance League volunteer. “The shop is a stable and ongoing funding source to help us meet some of those needs. When a shopper finds a vintage blazer for herself, she may not even realize that she is providing a winter jacket for a young student whose family may be struggling to stay warm through the winter.”
The store caters to discriminating shoppers who appreciate a good value for designer labels including: Armani, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta,Tory Burch, and Versace, to name a few.
The all-volunteer staff stocks, manages and runs the store. Most items are donated, and Assistance League distributes the profits. Some items can also be sold on consignment, so the donor gets half, and the ReSale Connection gets half, which then goes directly to Assistance League to clothe, feed, educate and comfort children and adults through community programs. Last year, Assistance League helped nearly 20,000 people.
“It’s a great community partnership,” Salmon said. “The ever-changing selections–along with the benefit of helping others–allows shoppers to feel great about their purchases.”
According to one shopper, “With new merchandise coming in all the time, it’s a different store every day. It’s worthwhile to stop in the ReSale Connection frequently. You never know what you might come across.”
Donations of ALL clothing, jewelry, home goods, and furniture are greatly appreciated, tax deductible, and the primary source of the ReSale Connection’s ever-changing inventory. (Non-designer brands are also accepted.)
Donations are always welcome, as they are the best source of philanthropic support, but if you’d like to consign items, that is available as well. To consign merchandise or for large items like furniture or artwork, please call for an appointment: (248) 656-0414.
Donations can be dropped off at 204 S. Main St., in downtown Rochester, during normal business hours.
