West Bloomfield School District Copes with Loss of Beloved Teacher

West Bloomfield, MI – Micah Greene taught in the theatre department at West Bloomfield High School since 2003, where he was a beloved teacher and inspiration to students.
The 40 year old teacher died in his home in Royal Oak Tuesday.  The cause of death has not yet been released.
According to the West Bloomfield Theatre Program website, Greene grew up in a small town named Williamston. “It’s on the east side of Lansing just a few miles past Okemos. I attended and graduated from Williamston High School,”Green wrote.  “At WHS I was a very active member of the school’s drama program. I then choose to attend Western Michigan University where I majored in theatre and communications. Upon graduation, I briefly worked in the broadcast television industry at WOTV ABC 41, a network affiliate station. During this period I quickly realized that this was not the life I sought and decided to return to Western to obtain a teaching certification. The rest, as they say, is history.”
Greene helped to create the  WB Film Festival in the spring of 2004, which continues to serve as a venue to showcase the creations of numerous WBHS video production students.
Green’s death was a shock to the community, and counselors were on hand Wednesday at the school to help students and co-workers cope with news of the loss.
One student, named Miranda, wrote on Twitter, “Because of Mr. Greene, the WBHS theater department was a family. He did it because he loved his job and sacrificed so much for his students.”
