ROYAL OAK, MI. – Congratulations to Royal Oak High School’s 2016 National Merit Finalists Sean Tarr and Alexander Woznicki.
Sean’s parents are Pat and Bill Tarr. At ROHS Sean participates in Model United Nations, Chess Club, National Honor Society, Nature Collective, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
Alexander is the son of Lori and Tony Woznicki. He plays the piano and violin and volunteers at William Beaumont Hospital. At ROHS he is involved in Model United Nations, Robotic Club and National Honor Society.
Only 15,000 nationwide finalists are chosen each year. These finalists are selected from an applicant pool of over 1.5 million students and represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Students are named by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation based on outstanding academic performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test taken as a junior.
“That Sean and UrbaneAd_04Alex have been selected as National Merit Finalists is an honor for our school and community as well as for these outstanding students,” said Shawn Lewis-Lakin, Superintendent of Royal Oak Schools. “These young men exemplify the excellence to which our entire school community strives. I’m impressed by their achievements, and am proud to have them represent Royal Oak High School,” added Michael Giromini, ROHS principal.
These students are making use of the opportunities available at Royal Oak High School to complete Advanced Placement coursework, which provide students the opportunity to complete college level courses while attending high school.
As finalists, Sean and Alexander are among the academically talented high school seniors who have an opportunity to earn a National Merit Scholarship. More than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
