Ferndale, MI – Zipcar is coming to Ferndale.
Ferndale City Council approved a one-year pilot program for the car-sharing program. The agreement rents the company two dedicated parking spaces at a rate of $65 per month per space. The only cost to the City would be in whatever parking revenue they might have collected above the $65.

Zipcar members can reserve a vehicle by the hour or by the day. The vehicle must be picked up and returned to the same spot. There is a $25 application fee, plus fees based on what plan drivers chose. Then there is an hourly or day rate.
“I just love this program. We’re long overdue for this coming into our downtown,” said Mayor Pro Tem Melanie Piana.
According to the recommendation from staff, Zipcar launched in Detroit in September 2013 711 ad pizzaand also operates in Ann Arbor. They are planning on working their way up the Woodward corridor.
The spaces allocated will be marked with Zipcar signage. One will be on Planavon near W. 9 Mile. The other will be on E. 9 Mile near Bermuda.
Zipcar will provide communications and promotional materials once they are ready to launch, and it will be their responsibility to make sure the program runs well. After a year they will meet with staff to review the program and decide if it should be renewed, expanded, reduced etc. and any extensions would have to go before City Council.
