FERNDALE, MI – For parents and caretakers of children five and under, the Ferndale Library is hosting an Early Learning Fair on Sat., Feb. 27. Local preschools, specialty music organizations and family service organizations will be on site offering information and answering questions from parents, expectant families or future parents, about how to set their children up for success.
The Ferndale Early Learning Fair will be an informational gathering covering several topics and preparations designed to enhance and supplement a child’s first five years. Local preschools, local children advocacy organizations, and local businesses that focus in on early learning will be on hand, arranged in an open house fair-style environment, for insightful conversation and Q&A concerning the pre-preschool years. There will also be mini informational sessions giving these unique organizations a chance to present more about what they do.
“A lot of times, new parents are overwhelmed with decisions and information in the early years,” said Ashley Lehman, Head Librarian of Youth Services at Ferndale Library. ‘What is the best preschool? Is my child talking enough? What kind of activities are available for children under the age of five?’ With this fair, we wanted to provide them an environment where they can ask these types of questions and more, and get answers from professionals all in one place.”
Attendees can hear from a preschool panel addressing the different types of preschool in the area, including introductions to Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia styles, along with local play based centers.
Music and activity can be crucial to a developing brain. Motor City Music Together and Nature’s Playhouse will present on why and how this specific kind of engagement can help a child’s development. Information about the young child and speech screenings will be provided through SALT, a group of local Speech Therapists.
Community outreach and family support groups like Great Start Oakland, Oakland Family Services, and Oakland Mediation Center will talk about intervention and more of their specific services for families.
The Ferndale Early Learning Fair starts at 2 PM, in the library’s Community Room.
No registration required.
