West Bloomfield, MI – Cranbrook Institute of Science Explores the Science of Valentine’s Day During Love After Dark
February 11 at 7pm
Cranbrook Institute of Science invites the public to explore the Science behind the season during Love after Dark at the Institute of Science on Thursday, February 11 at 7pm. Part of the CIS After Dark evening social series for adults 21+, February’s event dissects the songs, senses, sensuality, and science of the Valentine season with guest speakers and activities throughout the museum.
Single, married, dating, divorced, mingling, alone, in pairs, in groups, or any of the aforementioned  combined, all anyone needs is the desire to have fun and explore science as we delve into the most complex of human emotions.

Love Trivia to test the knowledge of our most intense emotional experience.
Headline Speaker Stephanie Tong, of Wayne State University, will present research on how the quick and impersonal communication the impact social media communication offer are affecting the way we meet, date, and court.
New friends of Cranbrook, Homestead Honey, will look at the importance of bees in pollinating the food we eat, and talk about the threat to bee populations. A dissection of flowers to discover the “sexual parts” of a plant follows in Birds and Bees.
Anthropologist Cameron Wood will reveal some of the more scandalous romances throughout history.
My Nerdy Valentine proves that love is not just for the cool kids and adults as guests make their own nerdy Valentine cards.
Name that tune and wind the Love Song Game by finishing the lyrics to famous songs of the heart
On the Spot Poetry offers guests the chance to hear short love poems produced in the moment!
And, perhaps most controversial of all, “Which sex is most likely to die in an idiotic fashion? (or Scientific Evidence of Male Idiot Theory”), a look at  whether males or females are most likely to put themselves in mortal peril by taking stupid risks – and what the evolutionary advantage to being an idiot might be—in love and war!

Every CIS After Dark event is a night of science and fun highlighting a different thematic topic – from evolution to sex – for adults 21+. Guests meet imaginative scientists, artists, thinkers, and enjoy live demonstrations, enticing conversations, engaging activities and more during a night at the museum.  This is much more than the field trips you knew growing up — leave the kids behind and bring your friends or a date and converse over cocktails.
Cranbrook Institute of Science, Michigan’s Museum of Natural History, is part of the world-renowned Cranbrook Educational Community at 39221 Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The museum is open Tuesdays-Thursdays 10 am – 5 pm, Fridays and Saturdays 10 am – 10 pm, and Sundays noon – 4 pm. Regular admission is $13 for adults and $9.50 for children 2-12 and senior citizens (65+); children under 2 and members are admitted free. Courtesy of MASCO Corporation Foundation, admission is free after 5 pm on the first Friday of each month. Other Fridays and all Saturdays after 5 pm admission is reduced to $6.50 for adults and $5.50 for children 2-12 and senior citizens; children under 2 and members are admitted free.
