Lansing, MI – The Secretary of State’s office is responsible for many services that impact residents and businesses including voter registration, oversight of elections and driving/vehicle related licensing.
Here are some stats, facts and figures from the Secretary of State Ruth Johnson for Fiscal Year 2015 (Oct. 1, 2014 and ends Sept. 30, 2015), taken from a report released in December 2015:
Budget and Fiscal Management
~$2.3 billion collected by SOS (FY15)
~ $1 billion for roads, $730 million for education, $358 million to General Fund
~$72 million to other state entities*
~$184 million SOS operations (8 percent to SOS / 92 percent to other entities)
~$225 million FY16 budget; $17.2 million General Fund (7.6 percent)

Statewide Election Data
~7,278,671 million registered voters in Michigan (as of October 2015)
~ 425,000+ voter registrations completed in branch offices during FY15
~ 1,601 local and county clerks who manage and run elections, providing local control, accountability and frontline knowledge of issues, candidates and the electorate
~ 92 percent of Michigan precincts have implemented electronic pollbooks
~ November 2014 General Election (last statewide general election)
~ 3,188,956 million voters (42.8% turnout), including 828,182 absentee voters

~ 3,500 to 4,000 average daily calls on the public toll-free line
Organ Donor Registry (annual totals)
~ More than 2 million names added to Michigan’s organ donor registry during initiative launched by Secretary Johnson (2011 –2015)
~ 344,945 names added in FY15
