(Press Release, Jan. 30, 2016)
Pontiac, MI – Better Pontiac is working with community partners and speaking with the Pontiac City Government to restore one of the city’s historic gems: Oak Hill Cemetery. This campaign seeks to energize the Pontiac community to take care of one of its most historic and beautiful assets. Better Pontiac is seeking donations to first fix the fence and repair the historic stone mausoleums, which are highly visible from University Drive.
Oak Hill Cemetery is a historic landmark on the edges of downtown Pontiac. Located off of University Drive, it sits on the banks of the Clinton River as it winds its way through the heart of Pontiac. Oak Hill Cemetery is known for its inspiring architecture, historic charm, and ctechadeternal resting place for some of Pontiac’s notable personalities. Maintaining this site according to strict standards will help preserve essential elements to the city’s historic narrative.
For years, Oak Hill has been struggling to preserve its historic mausoleums, which are in danger of crumbling due to harsh winters and aging stone and mortar. The eye-catching wrought iron fence has deteriorated to a point of having to be removed and reassembled using replica a pieces. To even come close to restoring this cemetery to its former glory.
Better Pontiac encourages donations to repair and restore this historic and sacred site, where so many of our fellow community members who helped build Pontiac are forever memorialized.
You can support this campaign by donating to Better Pontiac through Generosity.com, a website that enables charitable giving without requiring fees. Better Pontiac is a registered nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible.
