From Ferndale to Flint:
Places to Drop Off Water Donations
(Liz Lamoste, Jan. 18, 2016)
Ferndale, MI – The residents of Flint, Michigan have been subject to a horrific water crisis. They are struggling not only for access to clean water in the short term, but for justice and sustainable solutions going forward.
A group of us went up to meet Pastor Bobby Jackson of the Mission of Hope in Flint, who has been coordinating water distribution since September 2014. We’ve gotten him some more donations and more storage space thanks to Metro Community Development and Mott Community College – Technology Division, but even as the government may step up its involvement, they need more water now.
We hope to mobilize the entire city of Ferndale to show that we support Flint and stand in solidarity with Flint. The water drive is just the beginning of the work that we hope to accomplish. This event is in its infancy right now, and we’re looking for more people to reach out and see how we can make this a truly city-wide response! We’re looking for city government, businesses, community groups, and any others to work together.
We especially need drop off locations, access to large trucks and drivers for transportation, and volunteers to help load and drop off water.
For those of you who are outside of the Ferndale area, or who prefer to donate money, there are several places that would benefit from your monetary donations:
