(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 12, 2016)
Ferndale, MI – After about five years of being vacant, The City of Ferndale has filled the Captain position for the Police Department.
Vincent Palazzolo was promoted to the position, which involves operations management, managing patrol and budgeting, or as Chief Tim Collins said “all that great police stuff you don’t see on TV.” The Captain is next in command to the Chief, giving the department a more clearly defined management structure.

He started with the Ferndale PD in 1995 and in 1999 he was officer of the year. Prior to going into law enforcement, Palazzolo served in the armed forces. Through the years he’s served on patrol and on the SWAT team, including as SWAT Team Commander. After the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, he left to re-join the military and serve in Afghanistan. There he was a paratrooper.
In 2005 he returned to the Ferndale PD where he quickly moved up the ranks to Sergeant, and in 2011 to Lieutenant.
Palazzolo was introduced to the community as Captain at the Ferndale City Council Meeting on Jan. 11.
“I’m excited to move Ferndale PD into the next chapter of its life,” Captain Palazzolo said. He began his new position officially Jan. 1.
