Clarkston, MI – On January 6th, 2016 Michael Anthony LaJoice (DOB: 02/01/1979) walked into the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters in Pontiac and made a statement to Detectives that he committed an embezzlement of approximately $20 million dollars over a 12 year period at the Clarkston/Brandon Credit Union in Independence Township. He was the Chief Financial Officer at that credit union since 2003.
Detectives proceeded to confirm with the credit union officials the credibility of his statements.
As a result of the statements made in the interview and further investigation conducted by Detectives, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a 14 Count Warrant against LaJoice.
Charges authorized by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office and that were sworn to in the 52nd District Court 2nd Division are as follows:

  • Count 1    Embezzlement –  Financial Institution / Felony –  20 years
  • Count 2     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 3     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 MrMufflerAdtimes the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 4     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 5     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 6     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 7     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50, 000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 8     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 9     Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater

  • Count 13   Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater
  • Count 14   Embezzlement – $100,000 or more / Felony – 20 years and/or a fine up to $50,000.00 or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater

He was arraigned by 52-2 District Court Judge Joseph G. Fabrizio from 52-2nd District Court in Independence Township.ctechad
His total bond for all charges was set at $1,000,000.00 C/S – A GPS Tether is required if bond is posted.
A Pre-exam conference is scheduled for January 20, 2016 in that court.
The preliminary exam is scheduled for January 26, 2016 in that court.  Attached is his booking photo.
The investigation is ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with federal regulators (NCUA) and the FBI.
EDITOR’S NOTE:  According to The Detroit News “The credit union, in operation since 1957, has more than 9,300 members, 15 employees and lists resources of more than $60 million.”
The Livingston Daily reports that LaJoice, a resident of Tyrone Township, is the owner of Chassee Ballroom & Latin Dance Studio in Fenton.  “Investigators also executed search warrants at several locations linked to LaJoice, who was developing a massive Riverview project in Fenton slated to go in the old Topps produce market location,” the report said.
