Men Escape Sinking Vehicle
After Accident on Pine Knob Rd.

FROM DAY SHIFT: 12-25-2015, 07:00 hrs.
THROUGH MIDNIGHT SHIFT: 12-26-2015, 07:00 hrs.
INCIDENT: 09:29 hrs. – Independence Township – Submerged Vehicle – #15-209617
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to Pine Knob Rd and Waldon Road for a full size van partially submerged in a retention pond adjacent to the DTE Music Theater. The Independence Township Fire Department had entered the water and searched the vehicle for occupants. No one was located inside the vehicle. The vehicle registered to an address in Brandon Township. Deputies made contact with the Owner / Driver of the vehicle and he returned to the scene with Deputies. Paramedics from the Independence Township Fire Department treated the driver for lacerations to his face. Members from the OCSO Dive Team responded to assist with the scene.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The investigation revealed that the driver and his cousin, who was the front seat passenger, were southbound on Pine Knob Road and were not able to negotiate the curve. The vehicle traveled through a fence and into the pond. The driver and passenger escaped the submerged vehicle through the rear window and walked home. Deputies located the cousin who was uninjured at his residence in Brandon Township. The OCSO Dive Team members cleared the scene and assisted with the recovery of the vehicle. The driver was cited for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Report an Accident.
