Tree Removal Project Begins in Oak Park’s Victoria Park

Oak Park, MI – Today, Michigan Department of Transportation, or MDOT, began tree removal in Victoria Park. Victoria Park is located east and west of Church Street just north of 10 Mile Road in Oak Park. The affected area will be the section immediately positioned over the I-696 freeway. Tree removal, which will take place over the next 7 to 14 days, will include the cutting, removal, and stumping of all the trees in the affected area.
Since safety is of primary concern, the public is asked to use caution when navigating this area, obey any and all signage, and inform children of the Park’s inaccessibility while supervising their travel in and around this area.
Tree removal is part of a larger project to be continued next Spring where the material over the entire bridge deck will be removed, including Church Street. Vehicular traffic will be rerouted to Coolidge Highway and pedestrian pathways will be rerouted to the Rothstein Park walkways. Temporary walkways will be created around the construction site, but crossing over I-696 will be prohibited through Victoria Park.
At the conclusion of this MDOT project, an updated play structure with rubberized play surface will be installed, trees replaced, park benches added, and new lighting installed.
