Nick’s Fit Tips: Creating Happy Habits
(Guest View by Nick Webber, Dec. 15, 2015)
How do we get healthy? Well, with all of the current buzz about what it really takes to be fit, have the body you want, what foods you need to eat, what exercises you should be doing, it’s hard to filter out what works from what actually works against you.
One of the most important thing to keep in mind when trying to start leading a more healthful lifestyle is to do what makes you happy.
No, I’m not talking about how happy you think you will be after you stuff down that last piece of cake in the fridge. What I’m talking about are the small, realistic goals that you can set for yourself that, when accomplished, make you feel warm inside.
For example, deciding one night to set your alarm 20 minutes early to take a brisk morning walk around the block. That’s a lot easier to wrap your head around than saying, “Okay, this week I need 20 minutes of cardio every other day, and next week I’ll do every day.” And after it’s done, you’ll feel pumped for the day with endorphins rushing, increased morning energy, and most importantly, you’ll say “That was easy. I could see myself doing that again.”
If mornings aren’t your thing, I still recommend giving it a try, but there are plenty of other healthful habits that you can begin to pick up as well. Anything from replacing one item from your lunch with a fruit or vegetable for a day, to parking at a farther spot at work than usual just for the couple of extra steps. This won’t seem like much at first. However, as you try more little tricks and find a few that you like, you’ll be amazed at how naturally inspired you will be to further improve your life.
