Over 200 Baskets Made for HP Schools Families
(C. Proxmire, Dec. 13, 2015)
Hazel Park, MI – The Hazel Park Schools community came together this week for the annual holiday basket program. For over 30 years folks have been donating food, toys and winter -wear to families in need. This year over 200 care packages were made. Over 10,000 items were donated and dozens of volunteers came through the day to put them together. Among the volunteers were students from Webb Elementary and Jardon School, as well as elected officials from the city, the school board, and even State Rep. Robert Wittenberg.
The project was chaired by Hazel Park School Board member Sherrie Polowski, who said she is chairperson in name only. “Other board members help and there are lots of volunteers,” she said. “We are one big team that pulls together.”
The baskets go to low income families in the Hazel Park School District, which includes Hazel Park and part of Ferndale.
“It’s important to help families and students. It’s all about giving back. This is a great community for giving and looking out for each other,” Polowski said.
If people want to contribute financial gifts to use towards next years’ effort, checks can be made to Holiday Basket Committee and sent to any Hazel Park School. Learn more about Hazel Park Schools at www.hazelpark.k12.mi.us.
